ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Cumberland City Council is proud to offer a Cadetship with our Building Surveying team in line with the 'fresh start for local government apprentices, trainees and cadets' in conjunction with the NSW Government. This cadetship offers a combination of on-the-job work experience whilst you complete your university degree in this field.  

The role of the Cadet Engineer is to provide assistance to the Design and Technical Services Business unit by way of quality engineering design work relating to road, stormwater drainage and traffic functions. This role will provide timely professional advice on engineering matters to contractors and residents as well as provide quality survey, design and set out for engineering projects.

Reporting to the Executive Engineer Infrastructure Design, this role will conduct investigation and assessment of Civil Infrastructure related matters as directed by the Supervisor.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Currently enrolled in a four (4) year university degree related civil or structural engineering or equivalent
  • Completed a surveying unit as part of their current studies
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and MS applications
  • Knowledge of surveying equipment including Total Station
  • Time management skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines of a daily basis
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Possess administrative and organisational skills, including attention to detail, ability to maintain accurate records and skills in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work in a team environment with other staff, and /or consultants on special projects
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitments to WHS and EEO principles across all activities within the organisation
  • Class C drivers licence (including Provisional 1 or 2).

About this role: 

  • 1 x term contract, full-time or part-time position for a period of up to 24 months
  • 70 hour fortnight
  • Access to Council's 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO) 
  • Located at Council's Auburn office, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations.

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade T8 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,108.49 per week, plus 11% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
