Council’s Business Services team has an exciting opportunity for a finance guru to join the Finance team for approximately 7 months (November 2024 to June 2025) The Accounts Payable Officer will ensure that Council’s creditors are paid accurately and timely in accordance with approved operating policies and procedures, whilst providing high level customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
About this opportunity
The key responsibilities of the Accounts Payable Officer will include:
- Prepare and collate all necessary information to support and process creditor payments, including the importation of electronic files for upload.
- Ensure all new staff are provided with an appropriate induction in regards to procurement policies and procedures.
- Input all creditor invoices and create payment files or cheques as required to ensure Creditors are paid accurately and in a timely manner.
- Create and maintain Creditor master file records in accordance with to approved policies and procedures.
- Regularly reconcile subsidiary control accounts including the accounts payable and commitments control account.
- Respond to and resolve Creditor request and correspondence and reconcile monthly creditor statements.
- Maintain Council’s delegation register ensuring purchase orders are created and approved in accordance with set limits of officer delegation.
- Provide reports and statically information required to monitory activity and organisational compliance to approved procurement policies and procedures.
- Complete end of year procedures as required for the accounts payable and purchasing function.
- Perform a variety of tasks to assist the Finance Unit achieve goals and objectives and to enhance the multi-skilling and flexibility of the unit.
- Reconcile Inventory run variation reports and trail balance.
- Support Council’s transition to a cloud based enterprise management system.
What will you bring
Essential
- Minimum of 2 years experience operating electronic accounts payable and purchasing system.
- Able to maintain confidentiality.
- Strong numeracy skills.
- General accounting and reconciliation skills.
- Intermediate skill in the Microsoft Office suite of programs especially Excel.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
Desirable
- Experience working in a Local Government.
- Relevant post secondary qualification.
- Customer service skills and experience.
Specialist
- Secondary qualification (VCE) or equivalent.
- Understanding of Goods and Services and Fringe benefits Tax legislation.
- An ability to assess situations and events and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Understanding of basic accounting principles.
