Fairfield City Council is looking for a creative and motivated individual to join our team as a Sign Writer Apprentice! Role Overview

As a Sign Writer Apprentice, you will be designing, creating and installing signs and other designated graphics for Fairfield City Council facilities, vehicles, and road work signs to enhance the image of Council.

What You’ll Do

  • Participate actively in their course as scheduled, make satisfactory progress through the course and successfully complete all assessment tasks and other course requirements within allocated timeframes.
  • Design and create signs and graphics utilizing computerized sign manufacturing system in accordance with appropriate building codes, Australian Standards and Council requirements and specifications to ensure sign writing and painting for Council’s assets.
  • Undertake signage, line marking and cleaning requirements including traditional hand painted, computerised, digitally printed graphics to contribute to the enhancement of the image of Council’s assets.
  • Coordinate the removal of graffiti from Council assets and buildings to contribute to the positive presentation and image of Council property.
  • Design artwork and plans with various trade skills to the range of Council assets to fulfil signage requirements including line marking and graffiti removal to enhance the image of Council’s assets.
  • Apply sign making using a selection of suitable materials for signs such as timber, plastic, metal, glass, paint as well as the preparation and/or cleaning of surfaces using various chemicals to produce a quality product and finish to enhance the image of Council’s various assets.

What We’re Looking For

  • Completion of Year 10 School Certificate or Record of School Achievement (ROSA)
  • White Card (Construction Induction Card) or ability and willingness to obtain prior to commencement.
  • Current NSW Class C Drivers Licence or ability and willingness to obtain prior to commencement.
  • A genuine interest in design and the craft of sign writing, with an eye for detail and creativity.
  • Strong manual skills and a passion for working with your hands.
  • Ability to work safely with materials and tools, following safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to follow instructions and work well in a team environment.
  • A reliable work ethic with a positive attitude and eagerness to learn new techniques.
  • A creative flair with the ability to adapt to different styles of signage.

About the Apprenticeship

This apprenticeship is part of the Certificate III in Signs & Graphics, delivered through a combination of on-the-job training and formal study over a 48-month period. The course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to become a qualified sign writer and pursue a successful career in the industry.
