The Opportunity

As part of the Natural Assets Department, the Biosecurity Team carry out activities and measures to protect and enhance the unique environment of the Hinchinbrook Shire. 

The Biosecurity Officer assists in the delivery of a range of invasive species and natural asset management programs.

To be successful, you will demonstrate personal attributes that are consistent with Councils values of Integrity, People Focused, Excellence and Sustainability and you will possess the following:

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience in invasive species management or natural resource management, including a working knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in implementation of monitoring programs, operational management plans and procedures to manage invasive biosecurity matters.
  • Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise, negotiate with and share knowledge with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Well-developed computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office products and information systems including GIS and mapping software.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate productively to a team environment and to work autonomously with minimal supervision.

General Salary Information:

Stream A Level 2C $67,161 per annum plus superannuation.

Pre-employment Screening

Pre-employment screening includes Medicals, Drug and Alcohol Testing, and Criminal History Checks to ensure capability to perform the inherent requirements of the role.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements 

Applicants must be able to safely and competently carry out strenuous labouring and manual handling activities.  The position will require the employee to carry out physical tasks which may include manual handling, repetitive bending, kneeling, twisting and/or squatting, lifting, working in confined spaces, and working at heights.
