About the role

The Water and Wastewater Operator is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Council’s Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, ensuring that regulations in this industry are maintained and adhered to.

The role will see you sampling water, managing process exceptions, cleaning and maintaining plant and equipment and performing preventative and scheduled maintenance.

This position is required to provide quality customer service and create value for the community.

Key activities of this role include:

  • Operate and maintain Council’s Treatment Plants to ensure compliance with regulatory and other requirements
  • Assist with responding to and managing process exceptions/equipment failure/unusual events in a timely manner, utilising specialist resources, and reporting to others as appropriate
  • Manage and optimise treatment performance through collection and analysis of samples and review of treatment performance data
  • Undertake water quality testing and reporting in accordance with established procedures and water quality management systems
  • Clean and maintain plant, equipment and buildings, and undertake general grounds maintenance and by-product disposal as required
  • Perform scheduled and preventative equipment maintenance to appropriate standards utilising the incumbent’s skills, training and experience
  • Perform weekend duties, out of hours work (planned and unplanned) as rostered

To be successful in this role:

  • You are committed to providing quality service to the treatment of Water and Wastewater to aid in community water quality
  • You are experienced and skilled in Water and Wastewater treatment or have Recognised Water and Wastewater Operations qualifications or willing to obtain
    Current Class C Driver Licence
  • General Construction Induction Certificate (White Card) or willing to obtain
  • First Aid Certificate or willing to obtain

Other important information

  • The salary range for the casual position sits between $32.14 - $38.56 per hour plus 25% casual loading + hourly allowance + superannuation
  • Successful candidates may be required to have vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B and Tetanus.

Council will be creating an eligibility list from this recruitment process and may utilise this eligibility list to fill other permanent or temporary vacancies.
