Cumberland City Council proudly operates 14 Education and Care services across the community where our staff educate and care for children from birth to 13 years of age.

Across our long day care, out of school hours care and family day care services, our staff are passionate about empowering today’s children to become tomorrow’s future by teaching children to be respectful, resilient and confident in an environment that is accepting, safe and inspiring.

We have an exciting opportunity within our Education and Care Management Team for a passionate, qualified person to join us in the Centre Director - Early Childhood role.

Reporting to the Coordinator Education and Care, you will lead and mentor a dedicated team of staff and ensure they are supported in developing and growing their professional skills. You will be passionate about empowering today's children to become tomorrow's future and be responsible for the day to day operation of the centre.

Through your professional team, you will manage and deliver an innovative and educational program that provides a warm and caring environment which enriches and enhances the children's lives and compliments their families’ beliefs

The successful applicant will require:

  • Degree in Early Childhood Teaching or equivalent as approved by ACECQA (or nearing completion)
  • Provisional or Proficient Teacher Accreditation with NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), and to maintain such accreditation as per NESA requirements
  • Valid Working with Children Check Clearance Number
  • Child Protection course approved by the NSW Regulatory Authority (s162A Education and Care Services National Law) (or willing to obtain)
  • Current First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis Certificate as approved by ACECQA (or willing to obtain)
  • Completion of Food Handler/Safety Training (or willing to obtain)
  • Current class C driver’s licence
  • A solid understanding of relevant legislation:
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills and the ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders
  • Proven skills and experience in fiscal management, education and care and the delivery of effective customer service
  • Ability to manage multiple complex priorities including effective time management and organisational skills
  • A working knowledge of relevant trends and legislation in the education and care sector
  • Proven skills and ability as a leader of a professional team, positive communication is paramount along with proven skills and ability in staff management and development
  • Proficient knowledge and considerable understanding of computerised finance and education and care operating systems
  • Ability to provide support, assistance, timely and systematic advice on all aspects of operational requirements and policy direction
  • Ability to take personal responsibility for behaving in accordance with the organisation’s values and directions
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of relevant frameworks relating to the service type.

About this role: 

  • Permanent full-time position
  • Working 70 hour fortnight, rostered between 7:00am to 6:00pm
  • Access to Council's 9 day fortnight, Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangement
  • Located at primarily at Council's Auburn Long Day Care Centre, however may be required to work across any of Council’s Education and Care centres based on operational requirement.

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 11 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,714.07  to $1,971.18  per week, plus 11.5% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
