We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cloud Data Specialist to join our Information & Technology Services (I&TS) team. 

In line with industry trends, I&TS are gearing up to drive exciting transformational initiatives addressing key macro level Council challenges that include Data Strategy, Integration, digital dashboards, insights etc. supporting Cairns Regional Council Directorates corporate strategy goals. This is a new role that will be key in driving this transformation, as well as directing the creation and review of an enterprise architecture capability that supports ongoing success of our Corporate Plan that will see you responsible for a variety of work, with a focus on targeted business outcomes.  

The I&TS team is dedicated to supporting around 1,400 employees, with a can do, never give up attitude.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Responsible for managing, organising, and analysing large sets of data to help drive informed business decisions.
  • Play a key role in the Information & Technology Services Enterprise Architecture Team which establishes and maintains oversight of the Council’s approach to the use of information, digital services, and associated technology.
  • Develop enterprise data strategies and technical solution designs to implement supporting plans, policies, and data practices that control, protect and optimise the value of council’s enterprise Data Assets in accordance with Council’s Business Strategy and Information Management Standards.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Tertiary qualifications in an Information Technology related discipline or relevant industry experience.
  • Extensive experience in data architecture design and deployment, systems lifecycle management, and infrastructure planning and operations.
  • Demonstrated experience with Power BI and associated Power Platform infrastructure (Apps, Automate, Flow) design & implementation.
  • Design, develop, optimise and maintain data processing (CI/CD) pipelines and related BI toolsets.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and select data warehouse / data lake components, including database management systems, ELT / ETL software, API’s, data mining tools, and meta data management tools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in design and management of Microsoft SQL Server and Azure based database technologies including Data Factory, Managed Instance, Synapse & Databricks, Fabric, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS Gen2) and MS Purview.
  • Experience with business requirements analysis, entity relationship planning, database design, reporting structures etc.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
