About the role

Are you a Horticulture or Sports Turf professional looking for their next exciting challenge.

The City of Kalgoorlie Bulder has an opportunity like no other in Australia. You will be responsible for the Coordination of 4 different teams who develop the City to being the amazing green space that has visitors and residents impressed.

Your responsibility covers 10 sporting fields, 50 parks, a world class Golf course, our street tree program and all the open space in between. You are supported by a Golf Course Superintendent and team, a Parks Supervisor and team and Reserves Supervisor and Team and finally a Sports Turf Supervisor and team. 60 staff and a budget that exceeds $10 million dollars and you get to put your mark on the Oasis in the desert that we call Kalgoorlie Boulder.

Duties

Key responsibilities include:

  • Continually evaluate the capacity and capability of the City Presentation teams in line with the City’s goals, objectives and service levels.
  • Lead, plan and manage the activities of the City Presentation teams staff within delegated authority, approve budgets and allocated resources.
  • Prepare and present reports with recommendations on matters relevant to the business units.
  • Develop and update the business planning annually or as requested.
  • Develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans prior to the undertaking of works affecting the community to minimise its impact.
  • Ensure the adopted levels of service are maintained across all relevant asset classes.
  • Manage procurement - including tenders - and purchasing transactions while adhering to the City’s relevant policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the development of annual maintenance schedules for Parks, Irrigation, Turf, Reserves & Streets.
  • Assist with the development of a four-year renewal schedule for Parks, Irrigation, Turf, Reserves & Streets.
  • Ensure the City’s workforce and external contractors comply with statutory WHS requirements and operate in accordance with the City’s WHS policies, procedures and practices.
  • Ensure duty of care compliance with WHS legislation and follow all health, safety and injury management processes appropriately, including the reporting of injuries, incidents, damage events and near misses.
  • Keep record of all relevant documents in accordance with the City’s Record Keeping Plan, policies and procedures while ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Promote and role model the City’s public image, values, qualities and behaviors and foster a workplace culture of customer service excellence, teamwork and high performance.

Who we are Looking for:

To be considered for this position, you will need:

  • .Tertiary qualifications in Horticulture or lesser formal qualifications combined with experience, expertise and competence in Parks & Garden construction and maintenance works.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering a proactive construction and maintenance program in accordance with WHS legislation and requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering small to medium sized infrastructure projects in accordance with WHS legislation and requirements.
  • Demonstrated contract management experience. 5.Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role leading and motivating employees and contractors to achieve results in a positive, accountable, team based environment.
  • Sound understanding of asset management principles and experience using asset management software or similar to schedule repairs and maintenance.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Well-developed written skills and the ability to write reports, tender documentation, and other correspondence to a high standard.
  • Current ‘C’ class Driver’s Licence.
  • Construction Safety Awareness Certificate (White Card) required.
  • Competent computer skills including the Microsoft suite of products
