THE POSITION: This position is within the Engineering Assessment Branch of Council's City Development and Compliance Group and provides professional engineering   input into the Development Approvals process. Analysis of DA's, CC's with respect to drainage, flooding and traffic, ensuring they meet Council's Codes and policies as well as the implementation of Council's Stormwater Management Policy is required to be undertaken as part of this position.

The Development Engineer provides advice and recommendations to Managers, Coordinators, and other employees on complex technical matters. The position also provides advice to developers and/or applicants on Council's policies and procedures and discuss and explain development projects to interested or affected residents.

The Development Engineer is required to prepare engineering conditions for new developments and assist in the formulation of new      standard conditions, as well as undertaking the assessment and processing of development and modification applications against the relevant planning legislation, as well as Council's relevant codes, policies and procedures. The position requires attendance at Council’s Development Advisory Meetings as required, as well as the preparation of Policies and Development Control Plans in relation to engineering matters.

The Development Engineer is also required to undertake the assessment of Development Applications for subdivisions including the review the final Subdivision Certificates. The Development Engineer also conducts inspections of Subdivision/Development Road and Drainage Construction including the assessment Engineering Approvals (Construction Certificates) and provides a professional advisory role as an Engineering Inspector to ensure that all engineering works are carried out strictly in accordance with Council Policies and sound engineering practices.

ESSENTIAL: A Degree in Civil Engineering and eligibility for membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia. Proven communication and report writing skills, computer skills and driver's licence.

DESIRABLE: Experience in a wide range of civil engineering and sub-disciplines such as road construction, geotechnical, road design, traffic management, subdivision, drainage and flood mitigation. Experience in land use planning, development control and environmental impact assessment.

SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Permanent position, 70 hours per fortnight
  • This position is a Grade 6, salary range is $89,415.00 p.a. with progression to $93,942.00 p.a. on demonstrated competencies, with performance progression to $100,671.00 p.a.
