Join Our Team as a Health & Safety Advisor – 12 Month Contract

Are you a safety professional ready to make a real impact? The City of Port Phillip has an exciting 12-month opportunity for a Health and Safety Advisor to join our Safety and Wellbeing team.

This role goes beyond compliance – you’ll work closely with the Head of Safety and Wellbeing to lead a varied portfolio in Community Services and Family, Youth and Children’s Services, while also contributing to key initiatives across our People, Culture and Safety department.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Partner with leaders: Support people leaders to implement and embed the Safety Management System across the organisation.
  • Provide expert advice: Deliver guidance on complex risk assessments, incident investigations, and other health and safety matters.
  • Support prevention: Help develop and roll out practical initiatives, including those that support our child safety framework.
  • Support governance: Assist with internal audits and assurance activities to maintain strong oversight.

What You Bring

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills – able to connect and work effectively with people at all levels.
  • Solid knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and policies related to health and safety.
  • Practical experience in developing and implementing prevention initiatives.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • A collaborative approach to helping embed positive change and improve outcomes.
  • Relevant qualifications or substantial experience in safety or related fields.
