The Opportunity 
Due to exciting internal changes, this critical role has been newly established to support Council’s strategic people initiatives and strengthen human resources service delivery. As the Human Resources Coordinator, you will take a leading role in shaping and delivering high-quality and efficient human resources services across Council. You will be responsible for developing, enhancing and implementing contemporary human resources and industrial relations practices that align with the strategic goals of Council. This role has a strong focus on workforce planning, employee relations, performance management and staff development. As Coordinator, you will lead and support the Human Resources team to deliver a collaborative and responsive service, while reporting directly to the Executive Manager – People, Culture and Safety.
  
Key Responsibilities
 

  • Provide strategic direction, innovative thinking, and proactive leadership to support Council’s human resource management objectives;
  • Coordinate the effective delivery of key HR functions, including:
    • Recruitment, selection, and onboarding;
    • Employee and industrial relations; and
    • Learning and development.
  • Provide high-level, specialist advice to managers and employees on employment matters including industrial relations, award interpretation, enterprise bargaining, and workplace legislation;
  • Support and/or lead negotiations with unions and employee representatives on enterprise agreements, workplace change, disputes, and other industrial matters;
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of employee grievances, misconduct, bullying and harassment allegations, and performance concerns in accordance with Council policies and procedures;
  • Lead the review, development, and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance and alignment with best practice;
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across HR operations, systems, and service delivery;
  • Support the implementation of a business partner model by building strong relationships with departments to understand their workforce needs, providing tailored HR support, and promoting a proactive, solution-focused approach to service delivery;
  • Provide effective leadership, guidance, and day-to-day supervision of the Human Resources team to foster a high-performing and collaborative work culture;
  • Drive strategies to enhance and support Councils ability to ensure diversity, inclusion, positive duty and wellbeing initiatives are implemented and compliant within the workplace; and
  • Support the implementation of HR-related systems, processes, and projects, including liaising with internal stakeholders and external providers.

  • Demonstrated significant experience in contemporary human resources management, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and learning and development;
  • Strong understanding of relevant workplace legislation, modern awards, and industrial instruments, with the ability to interpret and apply them in practice;
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and review HR policies, strategies, and procedures aligned with organisational goals;
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, accurate, and practical HR advice to managers and employees;
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience supporting and developing a small team in a collaborative and high-performing work environment;
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with discretion, empathy, and sound judgment;
  • High-level problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with a strategic mindset and focus on achieving outcomes; and
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the capacity to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.

Desirable:
 

  • While Council value qualifications in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business, or a related field they are not an essential requirement for the role and applicants with relevant experience would be provided equal consideration;
  • Experience working within Local Government or a similar public sector environment is highly regarded; and
  • Experience with HRIS systems (e.g., TechnologyOne) and data reporting tools.

General Salary Information:
Level 7 Year 1, $106,584 per annum and $56.5431 per hour including allowances, plus superannuation
