Cairns Regional Council is seeking a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our Inner City Response Team as a Labourer. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of public spaces and venues across Cairns.
Your key responsibilities will include garden maintenance, cleaning, turf care, and venue supervision, ensuring all work is performed in line with Council’s standards and safety requirements. This is a physical role that requires a strong commitment to safety, quality customer service, and attention to detail.
What you will do:
• Maintain gardens, turfed areas, hard surfaces, and perform upgrades and establishment of new gardens.
• Ensure the safe, clean, and sanitary presentation of public areas and facilities, including cleaning and maintenance
tasks.
• Operate plant and vehicles efficiently and safely, completing daily prestart checks.
• Monitor, report, and resolve defects or issues promptly via electronic systems.
• Assist with event setups, including venue preparation and supervision during events to ensure the integrity of Council
properties.
• Provide excellent customer service and resolve customer concerns as they arise.
• Ensure compliance with Council's record-keeping and business system policies.
• Work with minimal supervision, ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner and to the highest standard.
What you will need:
• Current Queensland Light Rigid (LR) Driver’s Licence or ability to obtain.
• Certificate III in Horticulture or considerable relevant industry experience.
• White Card (General Safety Construction).
• Working in Proximity to Traffic Awareness Part 1 & 2 Qualification (MUTCD) or ability to obtain.
• Demonstrated experience in amenity and garden maintenance, including irrigation systems, tree pruning, fertiliser
application, herbicides, and cleaning.
• Strong knowledge of horticultural machinery use, such as mowers, blowers, chainsaws, and water blasters.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to engage effectively in high-profile public
environments.
