About the Role
As a Library Collection Officer, you will play a key role in delivering an innovative and high-quality library service that enhances literacy, lifelong learning, and community engagement. You will support staff in promoting both physical and digital resources, ensuring collections remain relevant, accessible, and well-utilised. Additionally, you will contribute to cataloguing, collection maintenance, and reporting while assisting with service-wide projects that align with the library’s strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the acquisition, cataloguing, processing, and distribution of physical and digital collections, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Monitor and analyse collection usage statistics to inform purchasing and collection development decisions.
- Support the development and implementation of innovative classification and processing systems to improve efficiency.
- Provide training and mentoring to staff on library resources and collection management best practices.
- Assist in identifying new collections, collection improvement projects, and emerging trends in library resources.
- Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including library suppliers and consortium partners.
- Contribute to service-wide projects aligned with the library’s community development objectives.
- Provide frontline library customer service, including reader advisory and support for digital resources.
To be successful within this role you will possess:
- A qualification in Library and Information Studies (ALIA-recognised) or at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of collection management principles and library industry standards.
- Proficiency in library management systems and digital resource platforms.
- Excellent organisational and analytical skills with an eye for detail.
- A passion for delivering high-quality library services that respond to community needs.
