The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Maribyrnong Libraries to join our team, based at the Braybrook branch. The successful candidate will be confident and enthusiastic with a demonstrated ability in the delivery of engaging and effective customer service in a library environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide welcoming, knowledgeable customer, information and reader advisory in branches, online and across all services.
  • Undertake administrative tasks to support day-to-day operations including recording statistics, collection maintenance and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for staff and visitors.
  • Provide first line digital and technical support for customers escalating to technical staff where necessary.
  • Contribute to the identification and delivery of programs that respond to the needs of the community - with a focus on multicultural programs.
  • Work with the Branch Team Leaders and Team Leader - Collections to support the collection maintenance of LOTE items and assist with selections of new material with a preference for shelf ready where possible.

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have the following:

  • Demonstrated front facing customer service experience.
  • Experience in the delivery of high quality and engaging programs preferably within a public library or education environment.
  • Proven proficiency in the use of technology and online applications.
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to engage effectively with people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds.
  • Victorian Certificate of Education or equivalent.
  • Written and verbal fluency in a second language that is a priority for the Maribyrnong community [refer mandatory requirements of position description]
  • The position requires the incumbent to complete a pre-employment medical check.
  • No relevant criminal record found in a police check.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current Victorian Drivers licence.

This is a front of house/customer service role with regular program delivery and assists with collection management of community language collections. The successful candidate will have a positive attitude and excellent people skills.
