Job Description

About the Department

The Parks & Operations Department delivers a range of services internally and externally which contribute to the overall service outcomes of Council. As part of the Infrastructure Services Directorate, the Department delivers an extremely diverse range of operational field roles including maintenance of Council parks, gardens, buildings and playgrounds. Other services include management of building service contracts, fleet mechanical repairs and supporting grieving families through our cemetery services. The Department also delivers capital works projects for Council buildings, parks and cemeteries, and as part of its field work manages the procurement and disposal of road vehicles and heavy plant operated by Council.

Your Opportunity

The Parks Labourer will carry out construction and maintenance duties within parks and gardens and other facilities so as to create a positive impression for the community and the region’s visitors.

Term:                         Full-time 

Hours of Work:         76 hours per fortnight , 9 day fortnight

Pay Level:                 $2,254.40 per fortnight (Level 3), plus superannuation and annual leave loading 

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. 

Employment Base:  Warwick, Queensland

The complete Key Responsibilities of this role can be found in the Position Description. These include (but are not limited to):  

  • Construction and maintenance of parks and gardens.
  • Basic horticulture and landscape design work.
  • General watering and maintenance work.
  • Preparation of work sites prior to commencement and cleaning up following completion of works.
  • Operation of a variety of machinery, small plant, mowers and hand held power tools.
  • Minor water maintenance and conducting water sampling.
  • Cleaning of the Central Business District and other streets within the region.
  • Collecting litter from streets and public carparks within the region.
  • Cleaning walls, floors and sewerage fixtures in public toilets and parks.

Desired Skills and Experience

What You Will Need

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Proven ability in general garden construction and landscape design.
  • Knowledge of basic horticulture and gardening.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake manual handling and labouring duties while exposed to the elements for extended periods.
  • Sound literacy, numeracy and problem solving skills including the ability to complete documentation in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a small team and with limited onsite supervision.
  • Proven ability to operate and complete preventative maintenance on a variety of hand tools, machinery and mowers related to parks and gardens operations.
  • Knowledge of Work Health and Safety requirements relevant within a parks environment.
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description
