The City of Salisbury’s Field Services Department is dedicated to maintaining Council’s essential infrastructure, ensuring that public spaces and assets remain safe, functional, and inviting. This comprehensive service includes the maintenance of buildings, workshops, fleet, and stores; civil infrastructure such as drainage, footpaths, and waste management; and the care of parks, landscapes, and open spaces. Specialized teams handle everything from arboriculture and turf management to pest control and security, while also responding to emergencies and maintaining contracts for features like reserve maintenance and cemetery services. Field Services plays a crucial role in supporting a vibrant and sustainable community. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage operational teams delivering horticultural and parks maintenance services.
  • Develop and oversee work schedules, ensuring timely completion of programmed and reactive maintenance.
  • Coordinate resources, including in-house crews and contractors, for efficient service delivery.
  • Manage outsourced maintenance contracts, from tendering to contract administration.
  • Monitor and report on performance metrics, ensuring high service standards.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by addressing requests and ensuring timely responses.
  • Facilitate toolbox meetings and implement workplace safety practices.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to teams on horticultural and landscape maintenance.
  • Mentor and develop staff, fostering a collaborative and motivated work environment.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and budget parameters.

To thrive within this role, you will possess:

  • Hold a current SA Driver’s License.
  • Diploma in Horticulture or substantial experience in a similar role.
  • Certificate IV in Frontline Management (or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of horticultural services, park maintenance, and contract management.
  • Proven ability to supervise, motivate, and develop staff and teams.
  • Competence in scheduling day-to-day work programs and resource allocation.
  • Knowledge of budgets and the budgeting process.
  • High-level written and verbal communication, including report writing and presentations.
