Banyule City Council is hiring a Parks Presentation Mowing Hand (Truck Driver) to play a key role in the Parks Presentation Team. The Truck Driver/Mowing Hand position is a key part of the team responsible for maintaining the Council’s open spaces, parks, and reserves to the highest horticultural standards.

Banyule City has a wealth of open space and parklands including areas of exotic and native vegetation of historical and environmental importance. The department is responsible for the care and development of over 200 parks and reserves, 50 sports fields, 163 playgrounds, over 75,000 street trees, extensive shared trail networks, as well as a plethora of park furniture and assets that enhance the urban landscape and create a more attractive and liveable environment.

About the Role:

In this role, you will maintain horticultural assets in parks, reserves and open space areas.

  • Operate out-front ride-on mowers, brush cutters, blowers, edgers, hand mowers, chain saws, post-hole diggers, and hedge trimmers to present these sites to the highest horticultural standards.
  • Assist in various other park maintenance-related duties to assist the Parks and Natural Environment team in achieving seasonal maintenance requirements.

Please note: You are required to work 8.44 hours per day within the spread of hours of 6.00 am – 6.00 pm.

The ordinary hours of work shall be 76 hours over a 9-day fortnight. During the summer months, you will be required to commence at 6.30 am, and for all other months of the year, you will be required to commence at 7.00 am. Your work hours are 6.30 am to 3.27 pm (including a 30-minute lunch break).

Skills, experience and certificates:

  • Demonstrated experience in operating an Out-Front Mower competently.
  • Experience in the operation of light mechanical plant including brush cutter, blower, edger, hand mower, chain saw, out front mower, post hole digger and hedge trimmers.
  • Safe and competent driving of vehicles up to 13.9 tonnes GCM with a current Medium Rigid driver’s licence.
  • Experience in the operation of light mechanical plant.
  • Previous experience working effectively in a team environment.
