THE POSITION

This position will inspect, maintain and repair plant, vehicles and other machinery and equipment in accordance with workshop programs, plant manuals / specifications and TfNSW regulations.  

You will:

  • Inspect, assess and / or test plant and equipment, and interpret work orders, diagrams, manuals or specifications, to diagnose problems and determine job requirements
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on Council’s vehicles, plant, or other equipment to maximize the availability and useful life of machines and their accessories and to ensure compliance with manufacturer warranty conditions and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) regulations.
  • Perform cost effective repairs to vehicles and plant by disassembling and inspecting parts for wear and other defects, diagnosing faults, and replacing or repairing defective and / or worn parts, in accordance with relevant standards, specifications and guidelines.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs to water and wastewater equipment, including transfer pumps, valves, dosing equipment and related items.
  • Apply mechanical trade skills in the areas of automotive electrical, air-conditioning systems, fuel injection, hydraulics, fabrication, welding, painting, fitting, machining and sheet metal work, as directed and in accordance with competency levels and training.
  • Determine parts and materials to effect repairs for particular jobs, place requisitions for materials, parts and / or services, and arrange for the delivery or collection of services or materials to meet work schedules and planned deadlines, in consultation with the supervisor.
  • Operate plant and equipment when required, in a manner that conforms with relevant laws, guidelines and safety requirements, for the purpose of diagnosing faults and testing safety / performance standards during maintenance or repairs.
  • Perform periodic roadworthy inspections on vehicles, plant and equipment to detect, repair and report on faults that may affect safety and / or efficiency of operation, and to approve Council's fleet for registration.
  • Assist with organising specialist mechanical or metal fabrication services, such as major engine or transmission rebuilds, including making recommendations to the Workshop Supervisor and organising services direct with relevant suppliers or contractors.
  • Maintain records relevant to the duties of the position, including work diaries, timesheets, plant maintenance logs and job records, work request forms, and accident / incident reports, and provide information to the supervisor and other infrastructure services staff as required.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Specifically, you will have:

  • Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle or Certificate III Mobile Plant Technology
  • Ability to correctly read, interpret and apply basic plans and specifications, operating instructions and written procedures
  • Class C Driver’s Licence – HR (Heavy Rigid) preferred
  • WorkCover Certificate in General WHS Induction (White Card)
