About the Opportunity

Council has an opportunity for the right people to join the Transport Infrastructure Team in Orange as the Road Maintenance Team Leader.

The primary purpose of this role is to assist with the facilitation and supervision of team operations to ensure the timely delivery of a quality Road Maintenance service within the Cabonne shire in accordance with Council’s maintenance works programs and specified standards.

Work teams are led by a supportive and proactive leadership team. You will be provided support and training in line with Council's values to learn the role and ensure our workers are resilient, adaptive and are able to perform to Council and community expectations.

This fulltime position operates over a 38-hour week with a 9-day fortnight, with opportunity for overtime. An overview of the position is provided below, for more detail refer to the attached position description.

Detailed Responsibilities

· Assist with the supervision and participate with a ‘hands on’ approach in the provision of road maintenance activities including monitoring the methods of staff under your control, providing on the job instruction and ensure they meet the guidelines provided by Council.

· Facilitate and carry out roadside litter collection.

· Carry out relevant Environmental Checks and maintain roadside vegetation.

· Operate all plant and equipment in a safe and competent manner.

· Follow up customer requests issued through Councils Request system and Maintenance Management System.

· Assist with the implementation and the ongoing administration of Council’s Road Management Plan.

· Prepare for works including arranging materials and resources.

· Set out and establish worksites and road works in accordance with relevant legislative guidelines and procedures.

· Communicate, solve, and discuss work problems with relevant staff /members of the public as required.

· Undertake tasks and duties as directed consistent with skill, competency, and training.

What Do You Need to Be Successful?

Essential

  • Construction Induction Certification (White Card).
  • Class C drivers' licence.
  • Current Implement Traffic Control Plans and Traffic Controller Certification.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to understand and follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a team-based approach, reliability and punctuality, with an proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Displays a positive attitude.

Desirable

  • Class HR driver’s licence.
  • Working near overhead powerlines training.

  • Employment is under the Local Government (State) Award 2023.
  • This position is graded 5-6 in Council's salary system.
  • Gross weekly wage range is $1155.40 to 1327.40 dependent upon qualifications and experience.
