About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists to join the South Melbourne Market’s dynamic team to drive the coordination and implementation of all aspects of the retail licencing/ leasing arrangements with the Market’s stallholders and traders.

Stallholder licensing is one of the key functions that enables the effective implementation of the South Melbourne Market’s Retail Strategy and contributes to the culture and customer experience the South Melbourne Market is renowned for.

You will develop and uphold frameworks and procedures across all elements of licencing/ leasing of the Market including negotiating licence renewals, new licences, licence preparation, administering licence renewal process, supervision of valuations, formalising and monitoring of offer (permitted use/specified purpose), monitoring stallholder performance, debt and compliance.

Duties:

  • Oversee all aspects of licensing/ leasing arrangements
  • Negotiate existing licences and conduct licence renewal processes
  • Negotiate new licences and casual trader permits
  • Develop, map, and improve licencing processes
  • Provide input on the optimum use of stalls within the Market including valuations, market mix and offer
  • Collaborate with management team to develop retail budgets and forecasts
  • Manage and curate the Markets retail incubator space the SO:ME Pop-up Space
  • Participate in a weekend working roster working one weekend day approximately every 4-6 weeks with time in lieu taken immediately thereafter.

Skills and Experience 

  • Experience in licence/lease administration in a retail/market environment
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiation
  • Highly developed interpersonal and written communications skills
  • Experience gaining co-operation and negotiating successful outcomes with licensees in regard to Licence negotiations, Licence renewals, and compliance matters
  • Ability to take initiative, work with limited supervision, have strong organisational and time management skills and work equally comfortably within clear guidelines and with a high degree of flexibility.
  • Strong ability to deal with difficult situations or conflict and gain cooperation and assistance from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Tertiary qualification in business, retail management and/or leasing & property.
