About the opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our Building Construction and Maintenance section on a term contract, full-time basis as a Stormwater Harvesting Officer for up to 5 years. This position will be responsible for the implementation and activation of Building Construction and Maintenance’s program of work for Council’s stormwater harvesting and reuse systems (RWT), to ensure they are compliant with legislative requirements.

An ideal candidate will prepare, monitor and implement maintenance programs, prepare work schedules and estimates and quotations to ensure our stormwater harvesting and reuse systems are optimised and remain operational. You will be responsible for engaging and managing specialist contractors as needed to implement the inspection and maintenance program, and manage the financial framework and transactions to ensure cost recovery of harvested stormwater. 

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Trade qualification or Certificate IV in a related field
  • In-depth experience in the building construction and maintenance area including dealing with and directing an in-house   labour force as well as contractors
  • Experience working within a team environment while also working independently
  • Current class C driver’s licence
  • Solid knowledge of application of skills in complex areas of the job (In particular TMV, backflow and stormwater, asbestos containing material,   roofs and fire safety)
  • Solid knowledge of working in a local government
  • Budgeting, forecasting, reporting
  • Background in Plumbing or related field.

Desirable:

  • Experience operating or maintaining stormwater harvesting and reuse systems
  • Backflow Prevention Device Certificate
  • Knowledge of Council’s compliance requirements, in particular in relation to stormwater harvesting systems
  • Confined Space certified
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service.

Remuneration and benefits

The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with Blacktown City Council’s Enterprise Agreement.

  • Entry level for this position starts at $1,506.24 per week
  • 38-hour working week
  • Rostered Day Off (RDO) every fortnight
  • Employee benefits such as leave entitlements (where applicable), 11.5% employer contribution payable to your nominated superannuation fund, Fitness Passport, gym membership discounts, and social clubs.
