About the role:

As the Tourism Manager with Diamantina Shire Council, you can expect to lead and coordinate all aspects of our tourism operations—from marketing and Visitor Centre operations to supporting major events and regional promotion. This is a leadership position that offers variety, challenge, and a unique lifestyle in Queensland’s far west.

Roles and responsibilities include:

● Managing Visitor Information Centres in Birdsville and Bedourie
● Overseeing tourism assets including museums and heritage sites
● Developing and implementing tourism and marketing strategies
● Supporting major events like the Birdsville Races and Big Red Bash
● Supporting regional tourism growth and collaboration
● Supervising the tourism team across multiple towns
● Preparing reports and contributing to annual planning and budgets

Experience and qualifications

● Extensive experience in a similar tourism or event role
● Relevant qualifications in Tourism, Marketing, Communications or Events (preferred)
● Demonstrated success in event planning and visitor services
● Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
● Sound knowledge of tourism trends and local government practices
● Competency with Microsoft Office, desktop publishing, and CMS/social media platforms
● A current Queensland C Class (manual) driver’s licence
