Job Description

About the Department

The Water and Wastewater Department works within the Infrastructure Directorate and reports directly to the Director Infrastructure with the directive to deliver on the water and wastewater obligations of Council, whilst providing a high level of customer service to the community.

Council’s Water Team delivers the essential services of water and wastewater (sewerage) to the Southern Downs community.  Water services starts at the source including the treatment and pumping of water, maintaining the network and providing water metering services. 

Wastewater services start with the property connection and includes maintaining the sewer network, managing pump stations and delivering wastewater treatment services at facilities across the region.

 

Your Opportunity

The key function of this new position within Council is to administer the Trade Waste Policy. This includes ensuring that all commercial and industrial businesses discharging trade wastes have an agreement in place and to carry out regular audits to confirm compliance with these agreements.

You will assist in the control of industrial and commercial loads on Council's Sewerage System and wastewater treatment facilities by inspection, regulation and control of trade waste discharges to sewer.

 

Term:                         Full-time 

Hours of Work:         72.5 hours per fortnight 

Pay Level:                 $3,061.70 to $3,258.83 per fortnight (Level 4), plus superannuation and annual leave loading 

In accordance with Council's Enterprise Agreement and the relevant Award. Pay rate dependant on relevant skills and experience. 

Employment Base:  Warwick, Queensland

  • Implementation of Southern Downs Regional Council’s Trade Waste Policy and Trade Waste Management Plan.
  • Identify and appropriately categorise all businesses that have a trade waste component.er.
  • Maintain a register of all trade waste agreements.
  • Prepare and maintain a schedule of all audits required and undertaken.
  • Perform day to day duties related to inspection, registration, monitoring, sampling, and control of trade waste generators.
  • Engage with trade waste customers, business owners, trades, and other stakeholders to achieve trade waste compliance.
  • Assess proprietary industrial trade waste pre-treatment systems for performance, suitability and compliance with Southern Downs Regional Council Trade Waste Management Plan requirements.
  • Undertake reviews of planning and plumbing applications as required.

Desired Skills and Experience

What You Will Need

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Demonstrated ability to apply high level of trade waste knowledge.
  • Knowledge and experience in the legislation and framework relating to trade waste.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to provide accurate timely advice in a helpful and supportive manner.
  • Well developed analytical, research and problem solving skills including the ability to prepare routine reports and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and autonomously to achieve results.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety considerations relevant to the role and how to limit risks in the environment where this role operates.
  • To be able to demonstrate your competence in relation to all of the Selection Criteria as detailed in the Position Description.
