• Permanent, full-time position
  • Build and support a thriving volunteer community
  • Drive volunteer initiatives and engagement

Who we are:

The City of Salisbury is a local government entity and encompasses an area of 158km2. We are a customer focused organisation, providing essential services to residents and visitors, in a dynamic and flexible working environment.

The Community Diversity and Inclusion Division plays a key role in strategic planning and service delivery for access and inclusion, intercultural communities, and vulnerable populations. The division supports residents through a range of services, including activities and meals at senior centres, housing support for older people, community events, and health and wellbeing programs. These initiatives aim to enhance quality of life, promote inclusivity, and ensure meaningful community engagement.

About the Role:

Are you passionate about building strong, thriving volunteer communities? We’re seeking a dynamic Volunteer Engagement Officer to coordinate all operational aspects of our volunteer program – from recruitment and engagement to retention – in line with our Strategic Management Framework.

In this vital role, you’ll be the first point of contact for those who manage and lead volunteers, providing expert advice and guidance. You will oversee data management and reporting, champion the volunteer experience, and actively raise the profile of volunteering both within Council and in the broader community. You’ll also contribute to continuous quality improvements to ensure we deliver a best-practice, inclusive volunteer program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the development and implementation of procedures, systems, and documentation to support the volunteer program.
  • Design and deliver marketing strategies to attract a diverse range of volunteers.
  • Manage volunteer enquiries and match applicants to suitable roles.
  • Oversee the onboarding process to ensure a smooth and timely experience for new volunteers.
  • Ensure all compliance and legislative requirements for volunteers are met.
  • Deliver induction sessions and skill development programs for volunteers.
  • Support the delivery of Council’s volunteer recognition initiatives.
  • Actively drive wellbeing and positive volunteer experiences across the organisation.
  • Manage the Council’s volunteer information and management systems.
  • Contribute key data and insights for reporting and program evaluation.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of volunteer management and human resource principles.
  • Knowledge of community development principles, practices, and standards.
  • Experience in the recruitment, engagement, and retention of volunteers or employees.
  • Understanding of the National Standards for Volunteer Involvement and relevant legislation.
  • Strong knowledge of the Local Government sector and the role of council departments.
  • Qualifications such as an Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management (specialising in Volunteer Management), Certificate IV in Volunteer Program Coordination, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to relate to a wide range of people.
  • High-level organisational and administrative skills, with strong computer literacy and data management abilities.
  • Proven technical skills to manage databases and produce accurate reports.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills to deliver engaging sessions and programs
