Council has two exciting opportunities to join the Water Utilities team as a Water & Wastewater Operator/Technician.

As an operator, you will undertake relevant operational works of Council’s water and wastewater infrastructure including water and wastewater treatment plants, storage facilities, and reticulation systems in accordance with quality standards, legislation, procedures, and documentation.

As a technician, you will provide technical input and oversight of the daily operational works of Council’s water and wastewater infrastructure including water and wastewater treatment plants, storages, and reticulation systems in accordance with quality standards, legislation, procedures, and documentation.

About the Role

Full training will be provided to the successful candidate. In this role you are able to progress from the level of operator to technician as you work through clearly defined training pathways.

This role is a full-time role, based out of the Molong water treatment plant.

The position operates over a 38-hour week with a 9-day fortnight.

Duties & Accountabilities

  • Undertake water and wastewater construction and maintenance works, including:
  1. Pipe laying, construction and repair,
  2. Wastewater and water operations, maintenance, and repairs,
  3. Reticulation repairs,
  4. Assisting with pump station maintenance and reservoir operations,
  5. Assisting with Molong Treatment works operations and maintenance,
  6. Assisting in Molong and Canowindra wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance.
  7. Undertaking mains and service maintenance and construction,
  8. Maintaining wastewater infrastructure in small towns sewer network
  9. Maintaining Water infrastructure at Mullion Creek, Cumnock & Yeoval,
  10. Read water meters.
  • Undertake routine water/effluent sampling and testing, accurately recording and reporting on the data.
  • Undertake dam operations and surveillance.
  • Undertake light plant maintenance and operation on designated items of plant within operator’s capabilities and certification.
  • Undertake work outside of normal hours and overtime as required to progress or complete assigned tasks including emergency repair works in accordance with the callout roster.
  • Participate in the on-call roster and undertake works as required outside of normal working hours.

Additionally, as a technician

  • Provide technical input and oversight of staff including leading operators in the completion of Council’s water and wastewater operations, construction, and maintenance according to Council procedures, WHS, risk, environmental, quality, and other requirements.
  • Facilitate on the job instruction and training operators where necessary.
  • Prepare for works including arranging materials and resources, including instruction and direction of staff.
  • Undertake routine water/effluent sampling and testing, accurately recording and reporting on the data.
  • Supervise and undertake dam operations and surveillance.
  • Supervise and undertake reporting and returns.
  • Ensure daily tasks are resourced, monitored and completed on time.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Construction Induction Certification (White Card).
  • Class C driver’s licence.

Desirable

  • Cert III or IV in Water Industry Operations (water and/or wastewater)
  • Current confined spaces certification
  • Liquified chlorine gas awareness training.
  • Fluoride training.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in a similar role would be highly regarded.
  • Willingness to learn and work as an integral part of a team
  • Demonstrated experience in the repair and maintenance of water and wastewater pumps, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Effective communications skills and ability to followed detailed written and verbal instructions
  • Demonstrated commitment to a team-based approach, reliability, and punctuality, with a proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Displays a positive attitude

Additionally for the Technician

  • 2-3 years' experience in an operational role in this field (technician)
  • Previous supervisory experience with proven ability to resolve interpersonal conflict.
  • Ability to manage time, set priorities and organise own work and that of other employees.

Other details relating to this position:

  • This position is graded 5-7 ($1155.40 - $1410.90 gross per week) dependant upon qualifications and experience.
