Your New Career

This role sits within Council’s People and Culture Department and will be part of small WHS team focused on maintaining a safe and healthy working environment within our municipality. Your day may include tasks such as:

  • Working on Surf Coast Shires ISO 45001 Safety Management System.
  • Conducting field audits and working through corrective actions with different departments.
  • Supporting injured workers through the return-to-work process and getting them back to pre-injury duties.

What you will bring to the Role

We are currently looking for a Work Health and Safety Advisor who is a compassionate and dedicated person who is driven by making a positive impact on how Council manages the health and safety of its employees and contractors.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Previous WHS skills and experience.
  • Previous experience in the Return to Workspace either as a Return-to-Work Coordinator or being part of the planning process.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate at different levels.

Key Selection Criteria

Mandatory Qualifications, Experience and Requirements

  • Two or more years’ experience in a workplace health and safety environment, preferably in a Construction or Contractor environment.
  • Exposure to working on commercial & civil projects including understanding of construction processes and methods.
  • Field auditing experience, preferably in a contractor environment.
  • Formal Workplace Health and Safety qualifications. Minimum Certificate IV Work Health and Safety.
  • Experience as a Return to Work Coordinator.
  • Construction Industry Induction Card.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting and coaching business leaders in improving health and safety performance.
  • Demonstrated experience in working independently and autonomously to support cross functional departments.
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Qualification Check
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence.(Minimum class C)
  • You have the Right to live and work in Australia.
  • A current WWCC.
  • Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council).
  • A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in Local Government
  • Experience working within a workplace health and safety environment, particularly in Civil Works, Construction or Parks & Gardens.
  • Formal Incident investigation and root cause qualifications (ICAMS, Taproot etc)
  • Formal Training and Assessment qualifications and experience.
  • Understanding and experience of health and safety industry accreditation including ISO 45001.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative, establish priorities, complete tasks and work with limited direction.
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment.
