Council has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to deliver efficient and effective financial and administrative support in the timely completion of accounting tasks and reports within the Finance team and to collaborate across the organisation to offer a customer focused finance service, fostering innovative solutions and improving practices.

About this opportunity

In this role of Assistant Accountant, some of the key responsibilities will include:

  • Support month-end and year-end financial processes, including reconciliation of accounts.
  • Assist in preparing Financial Statements, managing audits, and preparing BAS and FBT returns.
  • Maintain Council’s fixed asset register and support asset capitalization, disposals, and revaluations.
  • Provide financial training and support to other Council departments.
  • Contribute to the improvement and documentation of financial systems and procedures.

What will you bring

  • General understanding of accounting and finance concept.
  • Well-developed skills in using the Microsoft Office suite with advanced application of spread sheeting and word processing applications.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate both in oral and written communication with senior and executive staff and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately deal with sensitive information.
  • Excellent attention to detail along with the ability to plan and organise own workload and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to plan and organise own workload and prioritise to meet required deadlines with competing demands from different stakeholders.
  • Experience in a Local Government environment is desirable.
