THE POSITION:  Fairfield City Council’s Waste & Cleansing department is currently looking for a hard-working individual to join the dynamic team. This person will be responsible for operating a waste compaction vehicle and supervising the staff assigned to the vehicle.

  • Operate waste compaction vehicles efficiently and safely.
  • Supervise assigned staff members to ensure smooth operations.
  • Perform relief driving duties for domestic waste and recycling side load collection vehicles as needed.
  • Contribute to various waste collection services including garbage, recycling, FOGO and clean-up activities.
  • Take ownership of plant and equipment, operating and maintaining them with a focus on safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

The duties include but are not limited to:

  • Undertake clean-up crew activities as required
  • Collect residential garbage bins kerbside side loader
  • Collect unwanted residential and commercial waste using manual and mechanical aids

You would be part of the team who are responsible for the ongoing presentation of Fairfield City ensuring we meet our service level requirements. This role will require you to take ownership of the plant & equipment – this means operating and maintaining the plant daily with high levels of safety, quality, and customer focus.  We are looking for highly motivated, switched-on people who enjoy being part of a team, whose goal is to provide the best possible service to the ratepayers of Fairfield City Council.

ESSENTIAL:

  1. Demonstrated strong customer service focus, being conscientious and reliable.
  2. Demonstrated ability to perform work safely at all times through actively ensuring the safety of team members and others including the public and community at large.
  3. A suitable level of fitness relative to the position.
  4. Ability and preparedness to work flexibly across any collection services in a team based in a customer-focussed environment.
  5. Must be available to work on Public Holidays and weekends when required.
  6. Demonstrated a good attendance record
  7. Roads & Martime online record .

    DESIRABLE:
  8. Demonstrated driving and labouring experience preferably in rear loader collection and side load collection vehicle  residential waste/recycling collection.

SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Permanent position, 76 hours per fortnight
  • This position is a Grade B+, salary range is $86, 612.08p.a. plus 11.5% Superannuation
  • A uniform is provided
