Your New Career

As the Building Compliance Coordinator, you will be committed to delivering efficient, high-quality and effective services to our customers, stakeholders and industry partners, by ensuring regulatory building compliance activities are delivered for the community.

You will coordinate the day to day running of the team including mentoring specialist staff, developing policy and procedures and ensuring key building compliance strategies and initiatives are completed in accordance with legislative and Councils requirements.

What you will bring to the Role

We are currently looking for an energetic Building Compliance Specialist to lead a dynamic and developing team of professionals, in an amazing coastal and hinterland environment, where you’ll be making a real difference to the Surf Coast Community?

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating and leading a highly skilled team to deliver services in accordance with regulatory timeframes and Council’s service delivery plans and financial performance indicators.
  • Coordinate and manage building service functions, compliance investigations, regulatory inspections and responding to customer requests for services.
  • Mentor and contribute to the development of staff in the building services team.
  • Monitor workflows and team performance metrics using reporting frameworks.
  • Review, develop and maintain effective policy and procedures to support the delivery of Council’s building services and staff management.
  • Reviewing and updating the Council's Building Compliance legislation and related policies to ensure the Building Compliance Unit meets its legislative, regulatory, governance, and ethical obligations.

Key Selection Criteria

Mandatory Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Business Management, Building Surveying or equivalent with extensive experience in Building Compliance Services within Local Government.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with the Municipal Building Surveyor to manage and lead the team.
  • Ability to jointly lead the team to deliver pragmatic, consistent and desired outcomes.
  • Experience in leading the team to deliver a highly customer focused experience with all customers interacting with the Surf Coast Shire Building Services Team.
  • Experience in leading, motivating and managing teams and embedding a defined team culture.
  • Recognised as a people person with excellent internal and external relationship management and communication skills.
  • A current Working With Children Check
  • You have the permanent right to live and work in Australia
  • Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council).
    A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in leading and managing a Local Government building services team.
  • Experience in building sector in consulting, surveying or compliance monitoring field.
