The Opportunity

The position of Environmental Health Officer OSSM actively undertakes business functions associated with programmed audits, investigations, compliance and assessments of onsite sewage management systems throughout the Local Government Area (LGA). The position will assist the Coordinator Health and Building and Manager Development Assessment and Regulation by participating in a business transformation model to achieve cultural change and succeed in accomplishing agreed service delivery outcomes.

Essential Criteria

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health, Environmental Science or equivalent discipline with experience in Local Government context of the application of statutory provisions under the Local Government Act 1993 and the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.
  2. Previous demonstrated experience in the establishment, implementation and review of environmental compliance programs including on site sewer management audits. Ability to critically analyse different sewage management systems.
  3. Comprehensive demonstrated knowledge in contemporary environmental health systems and associated requirements.
  4. Proven experience in communication to a wide range of audiences, ability to negotiate outcomes and seek compliance through the use of a variety of regulatory tools including notices, orders, penalties and court proceedings.
  5. Demonstrated previous experience in the preparation of detailed and technical reports relating to environmental health activities. Ability to present information in a logical, factual and professional manner.
  6. Update and maintain corporate records, local systems and data bases, complying with systems and processes to ensure that all information is accurate, securely stored and accessible.
  7. Hold a Construction Induction (White) Card
  8. Hold and maintain current C Class Drivers Licence
  9. Be willing to participate in a pre-employment medical assessment prior to commencement
