The Opportunity

We currently have an exciting Health Promotion Officer position (reporting to the Team Leader, Community Health Promotion within our Social Planning and Wellbeing team), to deliver two grant-funded projects, the Kids Active Travel and the Vaping Prevention in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Youth programs.

You will be a proactive, experienced, and self-motivated person with demonstrated understanding of health promotion principles and the ability to apply your knowledge in a rapidly growing and changing environment and coordinate a wide range of community stakeholders.

In this role, you will apply your stakeholder engagement, youth co-design, program planning, management and evaluation skills on prevention-focused health and wellbeing priorities, as outlined in the Council and Wellbeing plan, with a focus on:

  • Social inclusion and mental wellbeing
  • Physical activity and active transport
  • Vaping prevention and harm reduction

In this role, you will build and maintain effective relationships across organisational and multiple community stakeholders with a strong focus on school communities, and embed collaboration and inclusion applications, such as systems thinking, whole-of-school and community engagement, codesign and intersectionality principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and evaluate initiatives which contribute to the Council and Wellbeing Plan 2021 – 2025, and other relevant strategies and plans.
  • Oversee the successful implementation and evaluation of the Kids Active Travel State Government funded program.
  • Oversee the successful implementation and evaluation of the Vaping Prevention State Government funded program, with a focus on CALD communities.
  • Work collaboratively with external stakeholders to develop and implement evidence-based initiatives aimed at improving health and wellbeing, in alignment with program objectives.
  • Design and deliver capacity building sessions for school communities to increase awareness and understanding of how to support the community in response to emerging health and social issues.
