The Opportunity

Our Inclusive Communities team has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Home Maintenance Officer to join our team and provide minor modifications, maintenance and repairs to the home, garden or yard of frail older persons or persons with a disability, in order to maintain the environment in a safe and habitable condition.

The tasks required to be undertaken do not require the skills of a qualified Tradesperson.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake maintenance required urgently due to the level of risk which would be occasioned to the client (e.g. lighting affecting main living areas, broken external windows/exit doors and locks);
  • Undertake maintenance which would enhance the safety of the consumer and/or enhance their independence e.g. falls prevention and modifications (e.g. installing/repair of hand rails, installation of taps, hand-held showers, changing light bulbs, modification of furniture);
  • Undertake non-urgent work to maintain the environment in a habitable condition and/or to enhance consumer independence (e.g. pruning shrubs, hedges, small trees to a height of 2 metres, small plastering and paint repairs, rubbish removal ); and
  • Undertake maintenance work to reduce the risk to safety or security of the community (e.g. fences, gates and overhanging trees).

About You

  • Minimum of four (4) years' secondary education along with an industry based training course or some on the job training.
  • Previous experience working in a maintenance environment.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Good communication skills (a community language would be highly regarded).
  • Ability to prioritise work and problem solve.

This role also requires you to be:

  • Physically and mentally fit to undertake duties as outlined within the position description. The position requires the incumbent to complete a pre-employment medical and police check.
