About this Opportunity:

The Local Connections Officer plays a key role in fostering community engagement and supporting the long-term sustainability of Council’s Volunteer Community Committees and volunteers across the Murray River Council region. This position involves managing and delivering effective community development initiatives, including organising training and workshops. The Local Connections Officer will work closely with the community to build strong relationships, ensuring the ongoing success of volunteer-driven services and supporting the overall objectives of the Council’s community development programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver community programs that enhance volunteer opportunities and social inclusion.
  • Provide advice on governance, funding, project development and volunteer management to local organisations.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships to improve volunteer outcomes.
  • Implement the Volunteer Strategy and advocate for community needs.
  • Support Section 355 committees with governance responsibilities.
  • Coordinate volunteer training on key topics, such as Work Health and Safety and Child Safe Standards.
  • Organise volunteer recognition events and activities to support a positive experience.
  • Attend community meetings, travel as needed, and work outside standard hours.
  • Ensure compliance with volunteer safety and risk management policies.
  • Identify emerging needs and develop strategies to sustain volunteer programs.
  • Contribute to Monthly Operational Reporting (MOR) and participate in performance reviews.

What you need to be successful:

  • Minimum Certificate IV in Community Services or Volunteer Management and/or 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and willingness to contribute to the improvement of Local Connections services and operations, including workflows, processes and systems.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality, judgement, initiative and sensitivity in dealing with volunteers and the public.
  • Commitment to undertaking continuing professional development.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
  • Working with Children’s Check (NSW).
  • National Police Check.
