As Manager Financial Strategy, you will:

Directly influence the Council’s financial sustainability and the quality of services provided to the community by leading Council's financial strategy, ensuring strategic alignment and compliance along with the preparation of financial statements, reporting and management of the budget process.

Play a key role in managing audits, driving continuous improvement in financial processes and leading a dedicated Finance team.

Key responsibilities include:

Prepare the Annual Financial Statements.

  • Coordinate the preparation and management of Council’s budget, Strategic Resource Plan, and Long Term Financial Plan.
  • Prepare monthly financial performance reports for Council.
  • Manage and coordinate audit processes, ensuring the implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Oversee Council’s treasury functions, including cash flow forecasts, investments, and borrowings.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial statutory requirements and government policies.
  • Lead and mentor the Finance team, fostering a high-performing environment.
  • Liaise with other departments to provide accurate financial and strategic information for budgeting and reporting.

About you:

To support your success in this role you will have:
 

  • A tertiary qualification at degree level in Accounting, Commerce or Business supported by membership of a professional accounting body such as CA or CPA with current membership of the Australian Society of Certified Practicing Accountants or Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a senior finance role; local government or asset accounting experience is preferred but not essential.
    Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying Australian Accounting Standards, Awards, Enterprise Agreements and legislation relating to the duties of this position.
  • Sound knowledge of the provisions of the Local Government Act, taxation legislation, and other relevant acts.
  • Proven ability to manage, mentor, and develop a team, positively contributing to team building.
  • High-level research, analytical and reporting skills.

Please note that this role is based in Wycheproof. Council’s preference is that the successful candidate should reside in or be willing to move to the region. Housing in Buloke Shire is significantly more affordable that in Metropolitan or larger Regional Areas.
