As Manager Works, you will:

  • Utilise your strategic planning and expertise in civil engineering to deliver a range of complex works programs, efficiently and within budget.
  • Lead with vision and values, fostering a culture of excellence and safety while working closely with stakeholders to deliver outcomes for the community.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the implementation and management of the Council’s mobile works management system.
  • Develop, implement, and manage annual operational works management budgets.
  • Act as the Contract Superintendent’s Representative, managing contracts related to Council projects.
  • Manage staff in Superintendent roles, ensuring effective planning and scheduling of works.
  • Manage key stakeholder relationships, ensuring project compliance and coordination.
  • Provide specialist technical advice to the Director Infrastructure and Delivery on infrastructure-related activities.
  • Ensure all works comply with safety and technical standards, achieving ‘best practice’ outcomes.
  • Prepare and present information to community groups and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of project impacts.
  • Act as the Municipal Emergency Management Officer, ensuring preparedness and response to emergencies within the shire

About you:

To support your success in this role you will have:

  • A degree or diploma in civil engineering or similar, with intensive specialist experience. Alternatively, a degree or diploma in civil engineering and an additional management qualification, such as a Master’s in Business Administration.
  • Specialised knowledge in civil engineering, works management, and the use of asset and works management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and managing large, complex budgets.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Experience in liaising with and negotiating with a range of stakeholders, including government agencies and community groups.
  • Current Victorian Driver Licence and Construction Induction Card, with Worksite Traffic Management certification preferred.

Please note that this role is based out of Birchip and Donald and requires travel within the shire. Council’s preference is that the successful candidate should reside in or be willing to move to the region. Housing in Buloke Shire is significantly more affordable that in Metropolitan or larger Regional Areas.
