The Victorian Maternal Child Health (MCH) Service is designed to give parents support, advice and information about child and family health issues and monitor growth, health, development and behaviour in children 0 – 6 years. The service provides a comprehensive and focused approach to the promotion of physical, emotional and social health and wellbeing of families in the community. The service is run by Maternal and Child Health Nurses (MCHNs) who are registered nurses and midwives with extra qualifications in maternal and child health. MCHNs have the knowledge and experience to deal with child and family health issues and problems.
The MCH Nurse Scholarship Program offers a scholarship worth up to $10,000 to an eligible registered nurse and midwife to undertake study at an accredited university that leads to a Graduate Diploma qualification as a Maternal and Child Health Nurse in Victoria.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
• Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
• Resident of Mansfield Shire or surrounding municipality
• Registered as a Nurse and Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and provide a current practicing certificate.
• Be enrolled in one of the above-mentioned courses.
• Complete the course in no longer than 2 years.
• If required, take up a position at Mansfield Shire Council under the VMCHNS employment model after 150 hours of clinical experience in the MCH program AND the theoretical content to support Universal MCH nursing practice.
