Open Space Operations Officer

The role

Our Park Operations, Open Space & Cemeteries team have an exciting full-time opportunity for an Open Space Operations Officer. This position will oversee contract works on maintenance of public parks, reserves, sports fields, cemeteries, and amenities. In this hybrid role, you'll spend part of your time out in the field conducting risk assessments, maintenance inspections, and ensuring contract works are completed to a high standard. You will also be spending time working indoors managing procurement, contracts, and the administration of ongoing projects. 

The ideal candidate will have trade qualifications in Parks or Horticulture, along with experience in contracts and procurement. You will need to demonstrate strong administrative skills and an ability to balance multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail. We’re looking for someone with excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to build strong working relationships with contractors and team members, and a solid understanding of both the practical and administrative aspects of open space maintenance activities. Risk management and compliance will be key areas of focus, so a background in these areas is essential.

What you'll bring

• Trade certificate in Parks/Horticulture or other related areas.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively manage staff or contractor relationships.
• Extensive experience with parks maintenance and minor construction activities.
• Practical experience in site inductions including hazard identification and risk analysis.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively monitor, assess and report on staff and contractor activities to ensure works are completed to a high standard.

The package

• Salary circa $72,574 p.a. plus superannuation (negotiable based on skills and experience).
• A to and from vehicle (for work use only).

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You will also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time 35 hours per week.
