About the Opportunity

The Regional Placemaking Project Officer role is your opportunity to work in a high-performing team and mentor cadet Town Planners. You will work alongside our talented Town Planners, Para-Planners, Building Surveyors & Approval Officer, all backed up by a strong Administration Team.

You will form an important part of an expanding and high performing team and mentor junior staff. You will have the opportunity to lead and drive exciting strategic projects that will shape the future of our Council alongside our strategic planning team and consultants to deliver exciting new outcomes for Moama, Barham, Murray Downs and our general Council area!

We are looking for an energetic, practical individual who enjoys challenging the status quo and thinking outside the square!

Key duties will include:

  • Providing high level, complex and accurate strategic town planning advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Navigating all planning instruments to facilitate quality planning outcomes for customers.
  • Managing the preparation, development and ongoing maintenance of Council's strategic documents including but not limited to the Local Strategic Planning Statement, Local Environment Plan, Development Control Plans, Strategic Land Use Plans, and other planning related strategies and projects.
  • Lead and develop Council's Town Planner(s), Para planners and Cadet Town Planner(s) in developing knowledge and understanding of planning and related legislation, development assessment processes and procedures, customer service and the provision of planning and development information.

What you need to be successful:

  • You will be an energetic, practical individual who enjoys challenging the status quo and thinking outside the square. Experience in regional and rural focused projects is highly regarded along with the ability to make risk-based decisions.
  • A tertiary qualification in town or urban planning, or other equivalent qualification(s) or currently undertaking relevant qualification
  • A minimum of three years of experience in NSW planning consultancy or NSW local government planning department.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NSW legislation and planning policies applying to the role with a focus on regional and rural strategic planning
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with difficult situations including negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in using Microsoft Office software and other IT programs such as GIS and willingness to learn additional programs as required.
  • Ability to manage/supervise and develop planning staff.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
  • The Successful applicant will need to provide a satisfactory National Police check and will be required to undergo a pre-employment medical.
