Senior Officer — Financial Performance Reporting and Systems

Role Overview

Gympie Regional Council currently has an exciting opportunity for an experienced financial professional to join the team on a permanent full-time basis within our Finance Branch.

This position will seek to improve the financial performance across Council, leveraging technology driven solutions with the identification and implementation of potential system improvements.

The position will provide assistance to internal partners for the preparation of operation and capital budgets and undertaking the financial analysis inputs for reporting and advice to Gympie Regional Council.

  The key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Identify and implement potential systems improvements to provide a high level of system support for Council's financial systems through identification of continuous improvement opportunities related to system functionality, development and participation in user acceptance testing and delivery of system user training for finance modules.
  • Provide a high level of system support for internal stakeholders including research, plan, develop and implement business and system process changes that will increase the efficient and effective financial management of operational and capital projects.
  • Develop and evaluate appropriate reporting functions including ad hoc management reports on request from management, provide professional advice to users in the development, production and maintenance of standard reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of Council's annual and quarterly operational and capital budget in accordance with agreed internal timeframes, in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development of the reporting within the Financial Services Branch and Council, ensuring internal customer requirements are met.
  • Undertake regular (monthly, quarterly, annual) financial analysis of operational and capital financial performance and report to responsible budget managers on results, variances and underlying explanations
  • Assist in the preparation of annual financial statements in accordance with Australian accounting standards, and the Local Government Act 2009 and associated Regulations.
  • Contribute to continuous and system improvement initiatives within across Council, including improving financial literacy and capacity of staff.

Essential Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications Criteria:

  • Relevant equivalent experience and/or qualifications in a finance, accounting or related discipline.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of accounting systems, implementing new finances systems and procedures
  • Demonstrated experience in financial reporting and budgeting, including knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, the Local Government Act and Regulations and Council's policies.
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively engage with a broad range of key stakeholders both within and external to the Council.
  • Queensland '‘C’ Class driver's licence or above that is current and maintained.
