The Role

An exciting opportunity exists for two trade qualified Gardeners within the Parks & Gardens section in a full-time role. The positions will be based around the City Entrances and will be responsible for maintaining and developing the City of Ballarat’s gardens, streetscapes, and parklands.

The successful applicants need to demonstrate working as part of a team, promoting safe work practices with a can-do attitude whilst working towards meeting City of Ballarat’s goals and vision.

About You

You will need demonstrated work experience and a positive approach to your work with a genuine passion for Horticulture Maintenance.

Ideally you will also be able to demonstrate:

  • Minimum of Level 3 Certificate in the trades of Gardening, or Landscaping or other relevant horticultural trade and / or significant relevant industry experience.
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence (MR licence would be desirable)
  • Demonstrate Skills in:
    • Culture of plants used in the Ballarat area.
    • Common pest and disease identification and control
    • Fertiliser application to lawns, garden beds and trees.
  • Application of horticultural chemicals
  • Experience in the safe operation of mechanical plant and hand tools used in horticultural maintenance.
  • Literacy and numeracy skills sufficient to maintain daily records, read works instructions and perform chemical mixing and application calculations.
  • Basic IT knowledge
  • Knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues relevant to work activities and work area.
  • Experience in the supervision of staff, particularly assisting in skills acquisition.
