Temporary full time up to 12 months

Salary: $75,243 to $101,416 per annum (based on 70 hours per fortnight) plus superannuation and a 9 day fortnight. 

Appointed salary in this range will be based on skills, qualifications, and experience.

Hornsby Shire is located on Sydney's upper north shore, approximately 25 kilometres north of the CBD. Known as the ‘Bushland Shire’, our local government area is characterised by bushland comprising national park, major waterways, natural reserves and rural landscape. The rest of the Shire combines urban, rural and open spaces.

About the role

The Environmental Compliance Officer contributes to a customer focused team that implements the Environmental, Health and Planning Legislative framework that protects the environment and ensures safe, sustainable development within the Shire.

The Environmental Compliance Officer services Council’s constituents in respect of development, land use, environment and building control in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.

About you

You are a pro-active, enthusiastic person who has good problem solving, interpersonal and persuasive skills when seeking agreement, discussing issues and resolving problems with people at all levels. You will also need;

  • Bachelor’s degree in or currently studying Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Law or relevant discipline and/or demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • Sound understanding in applying the regulatory functions of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, the Local Government Act and the Protection of the Environment Operations Act
  • Excellent customer service skills, both verbally and written.
  • Current NSW Class C Drivers Licence
