Georges Riverkeeper collaborates with eight Member Councils and a Financial Partner to improve the environmental health of the Georges River waterways and catchment. We implement five main programs that promote best practice environmental management and enhance liveability along the river. Established in 1979, Georges Riverkeeper is one of Australia’s longest-serving catchment management groups and is currently hosted by Liverpool City Council. 

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our organisation and drive sustainable environmental management in the Georges River catchment, estuaries, coastal zone, and floodplains on behalf of our members. This is an opportunity to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders including local councils, government agencies, businesses, environmental groups, and the community. The Program Manager leads a small team in implementing a collaboratively developed Strategic Plan and seeks opportunities to promote and share best practices in natural resource management. Additionally, the Program Manager serves as the Public Officer for Georges Riverkeeper.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role you will be responsible for Operations, Finance, Strategic Planning, Governance, Staff and Stakeholder Management. Working closely with the Executive Group, Committee, Georges Riverkeeper team and Member Council Officers, you will lead and deliver the vision for the organisation. Within the Liverpool City Council host organisation, the role reports to the Manager Environment. You will lead several key projects, including the development of the Georges River Coastal Management Plan. You will manage a small team and provide mentoring while empowering staff to work collaboratively and encouraging communication, knowledge transfer and learning.

ABOUT YOU

The successful applicant will have: 

  • Well-developed understanding of catchment, stormwater and waterway management issues within an urban context.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategies, plans, policies and programs and on ground works.
  • Demonstrated project management, administration, documentation (including consultancy/contract briefs), and budget.
  • Demonstrated experience working with multiple stakeholders across government and communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor small work teams.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, negotiation, advocacy, lobbying and conflict resolution skills in a politically sensitive area.
