The role

As part of the Parks and Open Space team, the Horticulturist is responsible for:

  • Specialised garden maintenance and high-quality presentation at the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens and other horticultural sites.
  • On the job mentoring, training and supervision of horticultural apprentices and other Council employees.
  • Excellent customer service by responding to customer requests in accordance with Councils service standards.

Our ideal candidate

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Trade Certificate - minimum Certificate III or commensurate knowledge and skills gained through relevant practical experience in horticultural/open space maintenance
  • Specialist horticultural experience within the maintenance, development and care of formal, heritage or botanic gardens
  • Experience in the design, preparation and maintenance of bedding/annual displays and mixed borders
  • Knowledge and experience in the operation of a range of plant and equipment used in horticultural/open space maintenance
