Oberon Council is seeking applications for the position of Labourer - Traffic Controller to undertake duties as a member of the Works and Technical Services Department.  The position will be responsible for day-to-day duties associated with traffic control for Council’s roads construction and maintenance program. This will include carrying out traffic control duties, monitoring traffic flow, and associated labouring duties in relation to road construction and maintenance activities

This is a permanent full time position based on 38 hours per week, under the current Local Government (State) Award 2023.

The position is a Grade 5, Step O $1,080.00 per week to Grade 5, Step 4 $1,252.80 per week plus adverse working conditions allowance plus superannuation. 

Key Responsibilities include

  • Carry out traffic control duties, monitoring of traffic flow, ensuring safety and compliance with legislative, regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Carry out labouring duties in relation to road construction and maintenance activities.
  • Take care of own and others’ safety and well-being by following safe work practices and alerting the appropriate personnel to any health and safety concerns.
  • Act in manner to use basic sense and a variety of problem-solving methods to develop workable solutions for jobs.
  • All other duties as directed within the skills and knowledge of the Band and Level of the Award.

Key Selection Criteria.

Essential: 

  1. Construction industry induction card issued by SafeWork NSW (‘White Card’) – Work Safely in the construction industry.
  2. Current Implement Traffic Control Plans and Traffic Controller tickets, including the ability to set up Work Zones and setting-up of signs and traffic lights.
  3. Demonstrated ability to carry out manual, physically demanding, labouring roles on a day-to-day basis working on road construction projects. 
  4. Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, follow instructions and complete assigned tasks
  5. Class C driver licence. 

Desirable:  

  1. MR/HR licence and experience operating a variety of plant and machinery.
  2. Previous experience working on road construction/maintenance projects.
  3. Ability to operate jet patcher.

Medical Requirements:

Selected applicants will be required to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment medical examination covering the areas of drug and alcohol screening, hearing, vision, core upper/lower body strengths and balance, manual handling, cardiovascular and blood pressure.
