The Opportunity
As an Operator, you will play a key role in ensuring the upkeep of public facilities, roads, and infrastructure. Responsibilities include operating heavy machinery, performing routine inspections, and responding to service requests with a commitment to quality and safety.
  
Key Responsibilities
 

  • Operate a variety of Council plant and equipment safely and competently in accordance with operational procedures and safety standards.
  • Perform routine inspections, servicing, and minor repairs to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Assist with a range of civil construction and maintenance tasks, including roadworks, drainage, footpaths, and other infrastructure-related duties.
  • Carry out manual labour as required, such as concreting, asphalting, site preparation, and basic traffic management duties.
  • Support the delivery of essential services by transporting materials, equipment, and resources to and from work sites for construction and maintenance tasks.
  • Comply with all relevant Work Health and Safety (WHS) and environmental regulations, identifying hazards and implementing appropriate control measures.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of work completed, plant operation, and materials used.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of service delivery standards to support efficient and effective operations.

  • Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to meet project deadlines.
  • Respond to service requests and assist in emergency or after-hours works when required.

Our Ideal Candidate
  
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Operator with a strong work ethic and a commitment to safety and teamwork. You will have experience operating heavy machinery, knowledge of road construction and maintenance, and the ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment. Strong problem-solving and communication skills are essential, along with a proactive approach to workplace safety.

Mandatory:
 

  • Demonstrated experience in the basic routine maintenance and the safe operation of plant as an ‘Operator’ within Local Government or in the Civil Construction industry;
  • Current White Card (General Construction Induction);
  • Current Queensland ‘HR’ Class Drivers licence or equivalent;
  • Current certificate of competency to operate a variety of plant and machinery including Backhoe, Roller, Loader, Skid Steer Loader, Excavator and other machinery and plant associated with municipal operations;
  • Demonstrated physical ability necessary to undertake manual handling and labouring for extended periods in direct sunlight and/or inclement weather conditions;
  • Ability to provide feedback and status updates through the use of verbal, written and electronic devices or the ability and willingness to undertake the required training to complete such; and
  • Ability to work safely and productively under limited general supervision.

Desirable:
 

  • Certificate III in Civil Construction (Plant Operations) or the ability and willingness to obtain;
  • Demonstrated experience in form-setting and concreting activities; and
  • Competent in Traffic Control and Traffic Management Implementation or the ability and willingness to obtain.

  
General Salary Information:
Level 4 $63,181 per annum including construction allowance plus superannuation.
