Position Overview:

The Senior Facilities Officer plays a key role in the operation, maintenance, and construction of Council facilities, including parks, gardens, swimming pools, community buildings, civic precincts, town streets, and cemetery maintenance. This position involves supervising a team and ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with Council policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision & Maintenance: Supervise and undertake maintenance and construction works on Council’s urban facilities.
  • Teamwork: Work collaboratively with operational staff to promote teamwork and positive workplace relations.
  • Training & Development: Actively participate in relevant training activities to continuously improve skills.
  • Plant Operation: Operate and maintain items of plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Paperwork & Compliance: Complete necessary paperwork including weekly timesheets in accordance with Council policies.
  • Safety & Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments and implement control measures to ensure work is carried out safely.
  • Licensing & Permits: Ensure appropriate licenses and permits are held for tasks requiring special certification.
  • Customer Service: Provide high-quality service to internal and external customers, addressing their needs in a timely manner.
  • After-Hours & Emergency Support: Participate in on-call and emergency call-out rosters when directed.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant trade qualification (TAFE Certificate Level 3 or equivalent) in a related area with demonstrated experience.
  • Class C Driver’s Licence.
  • Work Health and Safety (WorkCover) General Induction ticket.
  • Experience in the operation of small plant and equipment.
  • Strong understanding of work health and safety principles.
  • Commitment to equal employment opportunity principles

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in local government.
  • Experience and training in playground equipment safety inspections.
  • Experience in grounds maintenance.
  • Experience in concrete and carpentry works.
  • WorkCover certification (e.g., scaffolding).
  • Traffic Control at Worksites Ticket (Yellow – Apply TCPs).
  • Ability to operate larger plant (backhoe, front-end loader, excavator).
  • Chainsaw Operator Accreditation (Level 1 – cross cutting).
