Role Overview

Provide high level operational day to day coordination of Council’s Building Certification services, with a focus on continuous improvement and customer service to provide a high standard of building services that promotes community health, amenity, and safety in the built environment.

Provide an efficient and effective building assessment and inspection service for the Gympie Regional Council area to ensure processing of Building Applications within the prescribed timeframes as set by the Planning Act 2016, the Building Act 1975, and associated subordinate legislation.

Essential Knowledge & Skills: 

  • A qualification and equivalent experience that satisfies the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) licencing requirements for a Building Certifier Level 2 or Level 3.
  • Demonstrated experience in the assessment and certification of all Building Classifications with an expert knowledge of the relevant Acts, Regulations, and Codes that regulate the building and development industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating the daily operations and leading staff within a building certification practice, including experience in current human resource practices.
  • Experience in the development and review of operational budgets to achieve financial efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to facilitate the preparation of written instructions, reports and correspondence, and to facilitate clear communications with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and foster a positive customer service culture.
  • Queensland ‘C’ Class drivers' licence or above that is current and maintained.
  • Construction Industry Safety Induction Card (blue/white).
  • Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) Building Certifier Level 2 or Level 3 Licence

Essential Requirements: 

  • Supervising Council’s Certification practices to complete daily assessment and inspection tasks to meet legislative standards and customer demands.
  • Ensure the efficient processing of all building related applications which includes any relevant certification and inspections.
  • Provide expert technical support and advice on building matters to other Directorates within council and external stakeholders.
  • Provide technical, strategic, financial and business planning assistance to the Coordinator Building to ensure provision of cost-effective building certification services that meet community expectations and delivery with a focus on customers.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of budgetary requirements for the building certification section.
