The role & you

We're looking for a dedicated individual to join our Development Assessment and Building Certification department. In this role, you'll conduct inspections of swimming pools, process compliance certificates under the Swimming Pools Act, and assist with building approvals in line with local regulations. Your expertise will ensure safety and compliance, providing valuable advice to our community and representing the Council in legal matters and community engagements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting inspections and assessing applications for swimming pool compliance certificates under the Swimming Pools Act.
  • Promoting awareness of swimming pool safety requirements.
  • Supporting the Building Services Team in building approval and certification tasks.
  • Providing expert advice on swimming pool safety to management and customers.
  • Serving notices and orders as per local government and environmental regulations.

To thrive in this dynamic role, you will be registered or currently working towards registration under the Building and Developer Certification Act 2018 as a Swimming Pool Inspector or aiming for registration as a Building Surveyor.

Ideally, you will have at least 12 months of experience in a Building Surveyor or related role and recognised tertiary qualifications or formal study in Building Surveying and/or Environmental Planning & Health. You will possess excellent interpersonal, time management, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.

Salary: Commencing salary circa $69,000 p.a. - $76,000 p.a. plus superannuation. 

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
