About this position:

Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join its Compliance Unit. The successful applicant will be offered the opportunity to undertake a Certificate IV in Government Investigations (if not already held), while working within a professional team responsible for the enforcement of regulations and by-laws in the areas of animal control, fire abatement, nuisances, parking and the non-technical conditions of development and building approvals. 

As a compliance officer you will:

  • Enjoy a mix of both office based and outdoor tasks.
  • Provide a courteous, high-quality service to customers.
  • Educate residents and the greater community to increase understanding in this area.
  • Contribute to the well-being of our community.
  • Undertake animal control duties including patrols and pound maintenance.
  • Conduct investigations and respond to customer requests, enquiries and complaints.

To be successful, you will need to have sound negotiation skills and the ability to interpret legislation and write complex documents, or the ability to acquire these skills.

You will also have an aptitude and confidence to deal with animals, predominantly dogs, and be available for after-hours and weekend rostered work. Previous experience in a regulatory or compliance environment would be well-regarded.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • Certificate IV in Government Investigations or the ability to undertake this qualification (funded by council)
  • An understanding of, and ability to interpret and apply legislation,
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Further details:

The role is permanent full-time with a salary in the range of $73,157 - $90,029 per annum, depending on skills and experience plus 12.5% employer superannuation contribution. 

The successful candidate will be required to undertake rostered on call support during evenings, weekends and public holidays. A phone and vehicle are provided for after-hours on-call, as well as a daily on call allowance of $51.00 per day (2024-25 financial year), and applicable overtime rates for callouts.
