Role Overview

This position reports to the Manager Marketing, Communications and Economic Development and maintains a dotted line to the Manager Capital Delivery and Assets.

This role develops and delivers comprehensive communications and engagement with project stakeholders including the public, businesses, contractors and staff on Council’s capital works program. A key focus of this role will be supporting the Manager Capital Delivery and Assets.

Working with a range of internal stakeholders and a wider marketing and communications team, you will deliver an integrated approach to communication and engagement with multi-disciplinary capital works project teams, consistent with strategic priorities and the Gympie Regional Council brand.

The role is responsible for the strategy, delivery and process improvement for stakeholder and community engagement from the early planning, design and construction. The role liaises with community and stakeholders to help deliver communication and engagement tasks supporting Capital Works Projects.

Essential Knowledge & Skills: 

  • A relevant degree, and/or relevant experience and demonstrable knowledge and skills aligned to the position key responsibilities.
  • Organisational and time management skills, high levels of accuracy, desktop publishing and interpretation of data analytics.
  • Sound understanding of infrastructure project delivery and construction processes.
  • Strong skills in managing time, setting priorities, planning and organising one’s own work so as to achieve specific and set objectives in the most efficient way possible.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with proven skills in quality report writing and preparing external correspondence.
  • A strong customer service focus and demonstrated ability in developing, maintaining and growing strategic alliances with key public and private sector organisations and individuals.
  • Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence or above that is current and maintained.

Essential Requirements: 

  • Lead the development and implementation of the community and stakeholder engagement process for Council's Project Management Framework.
  • Lead the community and stakeholder engagement element for the broader capital works program and high-risk projects within Council's annual capital works program.
  • Lead online community engagement strategies and initiatives, engaging with stakeholders, and representing Council in various external initiatives.
  • Provide project engagement advice and support to project managers for medium and low risk projects within Council's annual capital works program.
  • Provide influential and engaging leadership to improve Gympie Regional Council's public image, publicised activities and enhanced community understanding of Council's role, services and achievements through effective communications and public relations materials/methods.
  • Engage and manage consultants as required.
  • Represent Gympie Regional Council and develop initiatives with relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist with budgets and monitor relevant income and expenditure in accordance with Council, organisational and Branch strategies and in line with organisational timeframes and standards.
